The Champions League is nearly back! The draw of the group stage took place just a few hours ago. FC Porto were in a good position, on the basis that, as Portuguese League Champions, we were in Pot 1. This almost entirely ruled out the possibility of drawing 2 top tier teams. Porto drew old familiar foes Altético Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Club Brugge.

The match against Sporting last Saturday marked Mehdi Taremi’s 100th appearance for FC Porto. He has scored 53 goals and made 37 assists, which is an absolutely sublime statistical record. He has become one of Porto’s most important players and has proven to be one of the best players in Portuguese football. This post will share a bit about his history, and discuss the impact he has had on the club, on and off the pitch.

The season 2022/23 season started last weekend, with Porto beating Tondela in the Portuguese Supercup final. The new league season is now upon us, with the first Portuguese League match being played this Friday, as Benfica takes on Arouca at home (Porto will be facing Maritimo on Saturday). Whilst planning out what I would write about in this blog, the first thing that came to my mind was to dedicate my first full post to Sérgio Conceição. He is more than just a coach; he is a true legend of this club and deserves the appropriate recognition. However, the match against Monaco took precedence so I started there. But I think it’s really important to stress how amazing of a job he has done and why he is absolutely integral to this team’s success, so here we go.
